The goal of this thesis was to increase knowledge of adults´ wellbeing and the health benefits of physical exercise. The thesis examines how adult experience the effects of exercise for their mental, physical and social wellbeing. The commissioner of the thesis was CrossFit Hämeenlinna which has produced physical exercise services in Hämeenlinna from 2014.

The main knowledge base consists of the theory of wellbeing by Erik Allardt in 1976 and UKK Institute´s Weekly Physical Activity Recommendations. The concepts used in the thesis are wellbeing, physical exercise, and CrossFit. The data were collected and analyzed using quantitative and qualitative methods. The thesis was implemented as an online Webropol survey among the active members of CrossFit Hämeenlinna during the summer of 2020. 87 members answered the survey.

The outcome of the survey indicates that active physical exercise and successful physical guidance have positive effects on social, mental and physical wellbeing. In addition, a positive and cheerful gym atmosphere motivates to regular exercise and the members can help each other to outperform themselves better than they would alone. In future it would be interesting to do research on how family circumstances, habitation or previous physical exercise hobbies effect a person´s experienced wellbeing.
