Tomas Torsein runs the farm Bältaregården together with his wife, close to Falköping, Sweden. “To revitalize the ecosystem is the most important, and the cows and other animals are tools to get the ecosystem processes to work as good as possible.” About ten years ago, Tomas got in touch with holistic management via Allan Savory and that gave him the tools to understand the ecosystem. Tomas talks about the four ecosystems’ processes (water cycle, mineral cycle, the energy flow and community dynamics) and how to maintain and cherish them with the help of a variation of animals and plants. On an 800-hectare regenerative farm, Tomas and his wife, are growing a big variety of plants, fruits and different kinds of berries to get the variations of the plants to feed the ecosystem. And the ecosystem is not only about people, but also birds, insects, worms and everything else – and looking after them all, so that they have shelter and water and all other things that are important.
