Our podcast guest, Billimarie Robinson is the executive director and founder of For Every Star, A Tree, a nonprofit organization engaged in ecological restoration in the western Mojave Desert in California. She runs the organization with help from family members and volunteers. When the pandemic hit, Billimarie noticed how much she missed nature. She missed the ability to pick fruit from trees or to look out at a lake or climb up a mountain. She missed being close to nature. She was feeling mentally, emotionally, and physically out of place and was trying to figure out how to heal herself. This is when she got the idea of buying degraded land in the desert as a form of healing. She wanted to reconnect with nature. Billimarie’s goal is to cultivate a 10-acre forest oasis in the middle of the Mojave Desert. Picking up the shovel is better than waiting for doomsday. Billimarie hopes her micro forest and pollinator gardens will help the environment, and biodiversity is the best technology to help the planet and reconnect us to nature. This podcast was produced as a final group assignment in the course Sustainable Organisin in Times of Crises at Hanken School of Economics in the spring of 2024.
