The purpose of this thesis was to establish a report of the working methods used in the historical parks of manor houses, valuable meadows and ruins gardens located in Eastern Helsinki. The aim of the report was to describe the methods using written instructions supported by pictures. The commissioner of this thesis was an organization of the city of Helsinki called Stara. A section of the organization that is specialized to the maintenance of historical parks is the one which is going to benefit the most from the report.

The theory part of the thesis was built by studying timely surveys dealing with minor houses’ parks of Eastern Helsinki, medium-term plans, maintenance plans and books concerning the history of the manor houses. The object of the theory part was to focus on mainly to the remarkable history and the developing future plans of historical parks at issue by avoiding general information. General information was avoided because the report was supposed to examine only distinctive working methods used in historical parks of Eastern Helsinki. The theory of this thesis concerning valuable meadows was introduced mainly at a general level.

All the information in the report for the commissioner was based on the knowledge the author got during her practical training period. Some assistance concerning the theory was also needed from Pepita Palonen who is the person responsible for the maintenance of the historical parks. All the pictures in the report were taken while working during the practical training period. The report is first of its kind and helps to maintain these impressive historical parks also for the next generations. The report is especially a guide for a proper maintenance and design. The ones benefitting the most of the report are current and future employees and all the other actors working with the historical parks.
