The purpose of study was to investigate the use of the Japanese steel plate reinforced concrete in the construction and structures of the large modular structure power plant reactor island. The study was commissioned by Säteilyturvakeskus STUK. They want to examine the structures from the point of view for the radiation and nuclear safety and the monitoring of the implementation. The thesis consists of a literature review and the most significant sources examined were Japanese JEAC 4618-2008:2010 (Technical Code for A Seismic Design of Steel Plate Reinforced Concrete Structures) standard, the latest draft versions of the nuclear power plant's instructions (YVL guides) and STUK's (STUK- Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority) nuclear safety certificate book. The main points includ-ed in the YVL guide and nuclear safety certificate are dealt with, i.e. nu-clear and radiation safety systems and the basic principles of security of nuclear power plant.

The study shows that the steel-concrete composite wall structure standard JEAC 4618-2008:2010 can be applied in the following way To manage the planning certainty the guiding principle in the design is that the level of certainty of brittle fracture mechanism must be at least equal to the safety level of the structural member A general recommendation is that the brittle fracture mechanism –specific security level is twice a high (JEAC 4618-2008:2010). Further studies are needed in steel plated with thicknesses of more than 40 mm (corresponding to the wall thickness from 1.2 to 8 m).
