The Bachelor’s thesis was based on the Ota koppi! Eat and motion for health - project where the purpose was to advance the health of youth from 16 to 29 years old, who were without working or studying place, with nutrition and exercising. The health of the youth was studied from the point of view of nutrition in the thesis.

To the youth were given knowledge, skills and understanding to practice a responsible decision-making related to their own nutrition with the help of a nutritional education. A problem was also a bad economic situation of the youth, a lack of motivation and ignorance which was affected also for not following diet according to the nutritional recommendation.

There was an event day which was organized in co-operating with Sininauha ry. It is an organization, which is intended for young people who are without work or study place. The purpose of the event was to wake up the youth to be interested in healthy nutrition and help them to understand the purpose of the healthy nutrition for the health. A written feedback was collected from the youth at the end of the event day. The feedback was that some of the youth felt they needed support and information to follow the healthy nutrition and some of them had enough knowledge already. In addition to the event day, there a guide Sensible nutrition was created where tips for the everyday nutrition were given. The purpose was that co-operation partner could be allowed to benefit the guide with the youth in the future.

Many of the youth felt that the event day gave new information to them and a motivation to maintain the healthy nutrition. The healthy nutrition supports and adds overall health which improves possibilities when searching a working and studying position.

To advance the health is a part of the nurse’s work. The purpose of the work was to get youth to think about their own ways of life and in that way prevent diseases caused by ways of life. The thesis developed the authors of the thesis in ways of motivating, guiding and precautionary work.
