This qualitative Bachelor’s thesis explores staff views on the evaluation methods of rehabilitative work activities and their development. The thesis was commissioned by a foundation which is the biggest local provider of rehabilitative work activity in a medium sized Finnish town. Two third sector actors who provide similar services were also interviewed during the thesis process.

The aim of this research was to find out what kind of evaluation methods have been used with clients in rehabilitative work activity and how these methods should be developed locally. In addition, the applicability of Emplyment radar (Työelämä-tutka) in evaluation of rehabilitative work activity clients was examined.

The theoretical frame of reference focuses on active social and labour policy, activation policy and social rehabilitation. Political control is examined from an ethnomethodological perspective. The theoretical part also discusses legislation pertaining to rehabilitative work and the analysis method used in this thesis.

The material for this thesis was acquired by interviewing the third sector service providers in the autumn 2014. The obtained data were transcribed and analyzed through categorization. According to the results, the most important evaluation methods were conversations with the rehabilitative work advisors, different kinds of forms and reports as well as activation plans and co-operation with public authorities. The interviewees described the suitability of the Employment radar in detail and emphasized the importance of social aspects of human beings when developing the assessment methods.
