Important part of public health nurses job is promotion of sexual health because everyone has sexuality. As a subject it is widely recognized but still quite silenced today. Mandator of this bachelor thesis is Student Health Care of Hämeenlinna.

The purpose of this bachelor thesis was to find out what abilities of public health nurse students have when they are graduating. Aim was to clear up what kind of experience students have about their knowledge on different fields of sexual health and what are the fields that they need more knowledge and skills of.

At the theory part of this bachelor thesis there has processed sexuality in general, sexual health, sexual rights, sexual identity and measures that public health nurses have promoting sexual health. Literature, articles and internet sources have been used to build the data. And the survey have made by using quantitative method to the public health nurses who were graduating at Häme University of Applied Sciences at spring 2015. The data has been made readable form using Excel program.

Research results shows that graduating public health student’s general knowledge and skills regarding different levels of sexual health were satisfactory. Results show that when knowledge goes outside of the general knowledge of measures to promote sexual health their skills got weaker. The students wish for more teaching about sexual health with special situations.

Base on the results teaching about sexual health and reproductive health should develop as far as special situation is concerned. Base on the survey’s answers could do a new survey to find out students’ knowledge and skills more accurately using more detailed survey.
