According to this thesis an occurrence of milk fever always is an economic loss in dairy farming. A hypocalcemia section summarizes the various forms of milk fever, their causes, symptoms, treatments and prevention of milk fever.

A survey was made to dairy farmers asking their usage habits and experiences. According to the survey, they are aware and interested in the use of products, and in particular their active ingredients. Very important was the domestic content requirement.

According to the results calcium products given to dairy cows by mouth may have a significant impact on preventing milk fever. The content of the different calcium salts was also very important.
