The purpose of this study was to create an all-inclusive plan about the structure of a streaming website and about the features needed there. In this plan we used a cloud server platform that already existed, and on top of it a web based solution for video streaming can be built. The material that will be used in this website consists both of live streaming and video On Demand. The material includes video clips from junior judo competitions. The purpose of this site was to enable all the people to watch the competitions, even those who cannot come and watch them live on the spot. The videos that this service will include can possible be watched for a small fee.

The commissioner of this research project is a company that was established in 2009 and which sells ITC -equipment and practices software consulting. The company is called Jencon. The commissioner wished that the plan would be invented in to a cloud platform, where they could also rent more CPU space for their business needs. My task was to compare among other things the differences and the different features between the cloud platforms, codecs, video compression and media servers. My goal was to find a solution that would serve the company`s needs in the best possible way, and at the same time also be cost efficient.

At the beginning of this report is thoroughly discussed the theory of the various cloud service options, streaming techniques, streaming protocols, codecs, video compression methods, media servers and video players and also the features that they include. This is followed by a comparison between different technologies and their costs to find the most appropriate entity for the company suitable to serve this particular purpose desired by the company. Finally, this report presents in detail the solution which was finally chosen for the company.
