The purpose of this Bachelor's thesis was to gather knowledge about rTMS treatment concerning depression. The aim was to produce a written patient guide which would be simple and encompassing. The patient guide was produced for a certain hospital's ward. The guide is intended for the supportive use of the nurse's spoken guidance.

The patient guide is based on the theoretical part of our study, which covers the useful patient guide. The knowledge of the patient guide is gathered from the former patient guide of the ward and from the responsible manager of the rTMS treatment. With the help of the patient guide, the patient learns about preparing for the treatment, implementation and for the effects.

In this thesis the depression is concerned as a sickness and the serial magnetic stimulation as a cure for the depression. Patient guidance is implemented by nurses both as spoken and written guidance and special characteristics of the mental patient are taken into account. Information was collected from reliable sources and articles.

The complete guide resulted from this thesis can be used in other treatments that are carried out in the ward. The significance of the patient guide based on the depression patient's compliance can be pondered in the future. It would be also good to gather and inspect feedback from the patients concerning the usefulness of the patient guide.
