This final thesis was commissioned by the Walki Oy Valkeakoski factory. The purpose of this work was to locate and document potential problems in inbound logistics of the factory.

Literature in the field was used as theoretical source’s. The Authors several years of work experience as a Production Planner and as an Operative Level Purchaser was also a valuable asset in this project.

The material’s for this study were collected in close co-operation with production personnel and the logistics employees at Walki Valkeakoski. All the problems were reported to Purchasing Department, where problems were classified and filed for analysis. To determine the exact origin of each problem, purchasers were working together with suppliers, transport company representatives and also customers in order to find the reasons behind the detected problems.

The results of this study clearly showed that minor problems and mistakes are occurring in the inbound logistics of Walki Oy Valkeakoski quite frequently. It was impossible to point out one single reason to these problems.

As a result of this study the author recommends that Walki Valkeakoski continue observing and documenting these problems and also process them regularly during meetings for example. After this it would be easier to decide about possible arrangements to correct the known problems and also to follow up if previously taken actions have been successful.

It would also be advisable to update possible supplier instructions and especially to look closely at transportation company performance since currently missing and faulty documents are the most frequently detected problems.
