Kangasmalliston suunnittelu Finnish Outlet-verkkokauppaan : Kohderyhmänä kehitysvammaiset

The subject of this thesis was to design a fabric collection for the Finnish Outlet online store where these fabrics would be sold as fabric per meter. The client of the thesis, Mr Pekka Jääskeläinen is the founder of the Finnish Outlet online store and also a manager of a foster home in Hämeenlinna. The client works with persons with an intellectual disability and in his experience it is good to make these persons feel peaceful and safe. These aspects helped to create the features of the collection where the words peaceful, safety, harmony and balance stand out. Through these words, nature was chosen as the theme.

The knowledge was obtained from literature and internet sources for effects of colors, trends of decoration for year 2016 and for inspiration to design the collection. A visual survey for persons with an intellectual disability was made at Virvelinranta concerning colors and figures. Results from the survey were analyzed aiming to design colors for one pattern in the collection.

The result of this thesis was a digitally printed collection which comprises three patterns and two colorings for every pattern. Three patterns were ordered to prototype in the size of half square meter model piece from the print workshop Printscorpio Oy. The client gets a brochure of the collection including the modelling photos of patterns in different decoration products. Through the brochure the client sees how patterns work in products if these fabrics of the collection are made into products in the future.
