The purpose of this thesis was to produce a carnivorous plant growing guide for newcomers and advanced growers. The guide is made to serve new people on their start of a new hobby but also help to extend already began carnivorous plant hobby.

To research the demand on producing the guide and what kind of content should be included in it a qualitative survey was carried out as a released link on a Finnish carnivorous plant group on Facebook. The idea of this growing guide began when the author had hard time starting her own hobby 10 years ago. There is no advanced or specifically specialized literature on carnivorous plants in Finland but for instance and reference there are many domestic books for orchid hobbyists. The used literary references for the guide are mainly English books except references used to introduce endemic Finnish carnivorous plant species. The survey revealed that the guide has a big demand. Many answerers think that we have too few domestic sources of knowledge when it comes to carnivorous plants. The most of answerers said the most important source for information is internet. Many answers highlighted that the guide should concentrate on the diversity of the hobby without forgetting subjects that are crucial to newcomers.

The growing guide isn’t going to be published online yet because the guide is meant to be published as a real book therefore all material is being protected by now. In the future there could be done more comprehensive guide that would aim more advanced growing tips and species instead of basic ones. One could produce a quick growing guide for markets that sell carnivorous plants in Finland so they could sell or even just distribute information alongside the carnivorous plants.
