Liikuteltava jätteenpolttolaitos

Big shopping malls and construction sites produce huge amounts of waste, wood and cardboard. There is a need to minimize the transporting of waste. This Bachelor’s thesis was commissioned by Mikline which is a waste disposal company in Forssa. Their goal was to find a working method to incinerate waste on the spot. The facility needed to be transferable by trucks and configurable to meet the needs of the customer. The aim of the thesis was to study the existing techniques to treat wood and cardboard waste and design an incineration technique.

The theoretical part of the thesis focuses on three different incineration methods, furnace bed, fluidized bed and gasification. It also covers different kinds of waste pretreatment methods and end products from the incineration.

In the thesis an operating incineration method was designed by using existing techniques. Equipment suppliers were supposed to be international to increase the maintenance liability abroad. The equipment can be modified to treat different types of waste. The equipment is fitted in containers and it is also easy to transport by sea to some other country.

As a conclusion it can be stated that the best technique for incineration is gasification. End products from gasification can be sold and all the slag can be burned in a bigger incineration facility.

The process is functional for reducing the amount of waste on the spot and minimizing the need of transportation. The introduction of the method sets demands on the waste producer. The biggest challenge is, however, the legislation of Finland and the EU. The first commissioning of the facility will be easier outside the EU, in Russia for example. The equipment will be suitable to treat all carbon based waste when techniques develop.
