The thesis was made for Finnish sports equipment importer and wholesaler. Company’s problem was high goods receiving lead-time that could not be solved at the time of the assignment by the company itself because lack of resources.

The purpose of the thesis was to detect the bottlenecks and the causes of them, and to propose solutions to processes that are taking too much time. The aim of the thesis is to find working solutions to decrease lead-time that can be used later on when company is making decisions regarding receiving goods. Solutions should be implemented quickly, because current lead-time is too much for growing company.

In the theory segment topical foreign and Finnish sources and content was used widely. Visual perception was used as a main research method. Besides visual perception, personal knowledge and experience was used as a support for research methods.

Outcome of the thesis was few solutions to decrease goods receiving lead-time. Solutions vary from easy to implement solutions to time and effort taking solutions. Principals previously planned barcode printing machine and its impact to receiving goods was noted in one of the solutions. These solutions can be combined to reach the best benefit.

Based on the outcome the printing machine would be too expensive at this point of operation, because of the large amount of automation it has to have. The biggest impact on reducing lead-time would be transferring printing the barcode labels from receiving goods to picking process.
