This thesis was assigned by a company called Fysioterapia Loposen Lapasesta. The goal of the thesis was to build a simple, search engine -optimized website for the company. The purpose was to find out, what SEO-plugin would be the best fit for the client. This thesis was also meant to give general knowledge of search engine optimization and how to implement it both generally and in Wordpress, and tell about how to define how one’s website shows when it’s shared in Facebook.

The research method used in this thesis was comparison between three Wordpress SEO-plugins. In the practical part of the thesis the three plugins were tested and finally compared against each other with the help of a comparison chart.

The theory part of this thesis goes through general knowledge of Wordpress and search engines and how they work. There is also information on search engine optimization, SEO for short, the means to do it in practice on a website and Open Graph -metatags. In the practical part, the creation of the website itself is somewhat briefly touched upon, after which there is a section on testing the SEO-plugins and comparing them together.

The result of this thesis is a website made with Wordpress and a report on the means of search engine optimization in Wordpress with SEO-plugins. The results could be used by private persons or businesses to help decide what sort of actions to take when optimizing their site.
