This thesis project was commissioned by the Hämeenlinna tube mill of SSAB Europe Ltd. The purpose of this project was to develop production lines H1 and H2, by reducing the production line stoppages with them. The topic of this thesis was to find the right root causes for the problems, and to find the best methods for preventing these problems.

The project started by examining the different materials and literature sources on the subject. Many of the factory workers and foremen were interviewed as teams. The results of the interviews were compared to the material that was acquired from SSAB Europe Ltd. All the problems detected were assessed trying to find the real root causes behind the problems. In this project the key focus was to develop the end of the production line. This location is called the bundling area. Another goal was finding methods to solve problems in this area.

As a result of this project several methods for avoiding problems were found. Also several methods were found to prevent problems before they even occur. The different methods for analyzing the material that were used during this project can also be used in future projects. The results of this project can be monitored through future interference reports.
