The purpose of thesis work was to produce a guide in children’s allergy and asthma to day care personnel of Akaa city. The aim of this guide was to give current information to day care personnel of children’s allergy and asthma and also how to take care of a child with allergy and asthma in the day care. In the theory part of the thesis allergy, atopic dermatitis, food oversensitivity, pollen allergy, anaphylaxis, asthma and also day care of a child with allergy and asthma were generally discussed. Different facts related to making a guide were also discussed in the theory part. The theory is based on reliable and recent research and professional literature. The international allergy programme 2008-2018 and the day care allergy and asthma directions 2004 were taken into account. Nowadays children’s allergies and asthma are common in day care and that is why there was a need to make a guide for care personnel which would make it easier to plan children’s day care. The guide was made in co-operation with the day care manager of Akaa city. The guide’s evaluation has been made by using a question form. There were closed and open questions that concerned the guide’s content, appearance and readability in the question form. A 24 –pages and A5-sized coloured guide was the result of the thesis work. The guide was delivered to different day care units in spring 2009, where it is in every-day-use in helping plan the day care and in briefing new employees.
