This thesis has started from an idea of getting a job in tourism, specifically in the field of program services. The aim of the survey was to find out whether there is a need for program services today and in the future. Another aim was to gain information on the role of nature in program services, and what people expect of a recreation day. The survey was based on the goals of well-being and coping at work. In the background there was a thought of making different company recreation days one of the main segments of program services.

The methods that were used in this survey were two semi-structural email inquiries and personal interviews during the recreation day for the target group. There was also observation during the day by the investigator. The results of the inquiries and interviews made it clear that there is a need for program services, especially in the future and also at present time. Based on the interviews the target group pointed out very clearly that nature is a very important part of Finnish program services in tourism. From a recreation day the people who were interviewed were expected a non-stressing, relaxing day in good spirit. They also wanted to get outside for a nature walk.

According to the results of the survey, there is a great need for program services in Finland. The hectic working life and being busy all the time will end up in total exhaustion. Program services offer a day with relaxation and recreation. Nature has a huge role in program services. It is important in every aspect of life. The recreation day does not have to offer great experiences; small things can make a difference. The demand for program services is likely to increase in spite of recession.
