The project target was to automate the M-real Tako power plant demineralization process to metsoDNA automation system. This process is designed to produce salt-free boiler feed water using two separate five-phase ion exchange series. Before the automatization of the process the water treatment process was completely manual.

The objective was a very cost-effective automation project, using the capacity of discharged automation equipment. The objective of the automation project was to design a modern process that would ensure production and work safety.

The thesis included the automation of pre-engineering, system engineering, field instrument engineering, electrical engineering, application engineering, function descriptions, reporting and user training.

The author of the thesis has previously acquired a long experience in the metsoDNA field instrument and software engineering and also automation system maintenance activities in the process industry-conducted.

The project design was carried out using modern database-driven design methods. Efficient use of the design tools and methods accelerated and ensured the quality of the design. The work was carried out systematically, step by step during factory production.
