Camelinan sadontuottokyky suhteessa rypsiin ja rapsiin eri typpilannoitustasoilla sekä tuholaisten esiintymisen vertailu camelina-, rypsi- ja rapsikasvustoissa

The subject of my thesis was to do a research on crop profit capacity of camelina (Camelina Sativa (L.) Crantz) in different nitrogen levels compared to spring turnip rape (Brassica rapa L. var. oleifera) and oilseed rape (Brassica napus L. subsp. oleifera) and to compare pest resistance between these three oil crops. The hypothesis was that camelina is less demanding of its input compared to turnip rape and oilseed rape. The commissioner of this study was Boreal Plant Breeding Ltd.

The study was performed with the help of three cultivation technical tests in the field trials of Boreal Plant Breeding Ltd in Jokioinen. In the tests a turnip rape variety called JulietBOR and oilseed rape variety called TrapperBOR and four different camelina varieties were used. In the study of comparing the pest resistance the pests were observed with glue traps. The study focused to rape blossom beetle and flea beetle which are the worst pests for oil crops.

On the basis of the study camelina benefited from a high nitrogen level but some differences between the varieties and the tests occurred. So the study did not support the supposition directly from the modesty in regard to the nitrogen fertilization of camelina. Anyway abiding inferences can`t be done based on a one year study. Thus the research must be continued. The study of the pest resistance showed that flea beetle and rape blossom beetle are not as harmful to camelina as they are to the turnip rape and oilseed rape.
