Sääaseman kartoitus : HAMK Valkeakosken sääaseman kunnon kartoitus

The topic for this thesis was provided to me by the HAMK Valkeakoski unit. The head of the degree programme, Mr. Antti Aimo ordered and supervised this thesis work. The main goal of this work was to survey the functionality of a weather station that was located on the school’s premises. The project also included examining weather stations on a general level including their functions and measurement methods. The author’s knowledge in the use of automation measurement methods was applied in this work. Knowledge about wiring diagrams was utilised in this work during the testing phase of the weather station.

The project was started by surveying the functionality of the weather station. After that the main focus was on a general surveying of the function’s of weather stations. Measurement devices and methods were chosen as the widest point of focus here. They were chosen because of their direct connection to automation engineering. In addition the possibilities and advantages that an automated weather station offers to the user were analyzed in this thesis.

The first outcome was acquired in the project while examining the functionality of the weather station. The result was that the weather station was not functioning properly. The possibilities for maintenance were surveyed. Regardless, however, maintenance was not conducted because of the high expenses and the tight schedule in hand. From this point on the contents of the thesis were focused more on the surveying in general and the instruments used in the weather stations.

As a conclusion it can be stated that this thesis illustrates well how a small project can face problems and how these can affect the execution of the project. The project was interesting and surprisingly challenging compared to how it felt when it was started. This work also gives people guidance on planning a weather station by giving some options for selecting the fitting equipment.
