Supporting of self-help and health promotion are very important parts of nursing. Self-help means the customer’s own self-care, which has been planned with the professional. The starting point of this thesis was a southern Finnish health organization’s need to develop the action of self-help points. The purpose of this Bachelor’s thesis was to investigate, if the self-help points were used for supporting customers’ self-help and if nurses experience the self-help points as part of supporting customers’ self-help. The purpose was to obtain information of how the self-help points and their activities should be developed. The target is to produce information of the self-help points’ activities which helps to develop the activities of the self-help points.

The Bachelor’s thesis was carried out as a qualitative survey. The thesis us-es theme interviews. Six nurses (n=6) were interviewed related to the activities of the self-help points. The content analysis was conducted by the inductive method.

The Bachelor’s thesis revealed that nurses were using the self-help points to support the customer’s self-help, even though it could be used more. There is information on the self-help points, and guidance is provided related to them. The self-help points were experienced as good service, but there are challenges related to the activities. Development proposals were related to the organization of the activities, contact availability, measuring tools, written material, electronic material and increasing information. With help of the development proposals in the Bachelor’s thesis, the self-help points could be developed and those could be used more to support customers’ self-help.
