The idea of this thesis was to produce a guide for nursing exchange students in Häme University of Applied Sciences who come to Hämeenlinna, Finland for a practical training. Häme University of Applied Sciences was also the principal in this thesis.

Student exchange is kept as an important way to learn multicultural skills in caring industry. Student exchange offers many challenges and possibilities for an individual and community. Lingual problems, prejudices and cultural differences may cause misunderstandings, discrimination and even rasistic behavior between a foreign student and Finnish work community. On the other hand, multiculturalism makes learning new habits and different points of view possible in nursing industry. Finnish people can learn new practice and alternative ways of working from people coming from other cultures.

There was not that much information concerning the theme of the thesis. The main source used is literature based on multiculturalism. Master theses were also used.

As the result of the thesis developed an electrical guide which is going to be given to the exchange students already before they arrive in Finland. The meaning of the guide is to sum up the most important things students should know about school and practice placement. The guide will be helping the students all the way their training period.
