This thesis was commissioned by Lähipuoti Remes Oy, Kimmo Remes and Ab Matkahuolto Oy, Janne Reiman. The Idea of this thesis was to expand the business of Lähipuoti Remes Oy from online wholesale to online consumer sales. The aim of this study was to get an overall picture of consumer interest in local foods online store. Local food has been growing trend in recent years, as well as online food markets, therefore commissioners wanted to get clarity consumer interest in local food online store and how they would like it to happen in practice.

Background materials in this thesis were recent publications regarding local food and buying groceries online. Also authority sources, such as Finnish food Safety Authority, Evira and Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry

This research was conducted by interviews during spring and summer 2015 in the area of Forssa and Tampere. Interviewed people were mostly those who make the food shopping in the families. Based on the results consumers are interested to some extent buying local food products from online. Convenience was the keyword, consumers hoped for home deliv-ery and getting all the products from one place.

Based on the results, the pilot version of consumer online sales in collaboration with Lähipuoti Remes Oy and Ab Matkahuolto Oy is realistic.
