The main and final aim was to produce a nursing guide that disseminates researched information on vision and eye diseases for healthcare professionals, but also patients themselves as well as their families.

The thesis was based on literature view. Source material was gathered from internet, books, researches and articles which provided information about vision, eye diseases, aging, nursing and ancillary. The theoretical basis of the thesis consisted of those five keywords used in the thesis.

Based on the collected information it seems that vision impairment can lead to other diseases such as coronary diseases, diabetes and depression. It can also reduce mobility, increase falls and finally increase the need of institutional care among elderly people.

As a final result a Nursing Guide that the commissioners as well as authors were satisfied with, was produced. The guide includes information about the most common eye diseases in elderly, which are diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, cataract and age-related macular degeneration. There is also information about vision and how it can be considered in elderly nursing.
