This thesis was made to be a guide to search engine optimization. The thesis was commissioned by Mainostoimisto Precis Oy, and their client the shopping centre Tuulonen will be the user of the guide. The research problem of the thesis is how to improve the shopping centre's internet presence. The thesis does not solely focus on the shopping centre but also on improving companies' internet visibility in general.

The theoretical framework of the thesis is based on keyword marketing, search engine optimization, evaluation, content and concepts of social media. The thesis focuses in depth on websites and how they are made more search engine friendly. In addition to the theory part, there is also material based on user experiences and by examining the shopping centre's internet visibility.

Examining internet visibility consists of analyzing websites and social media and looking into the most important key figures.

All in all, it could be said that the thesis turned out to be a general guide of how search engine marketing should be done. The advice is given at a very general level and does not go into technical details in depth. More technical details can be added later to the guide to make it more specific. Based on user experience the guide was modified by adding examples and explaining key terms. Terms aren't covered in depth in the guide because they are already covered in the theory part of the thesis.
