The aim of the thesis was to do research on product development and commercial footwear. The focus was to use the research to create a 3-pair collection using an older collection as inspiration. The thesis focuses on product development and footwear design using different design methods and source material. The goal was to understand commercial design and explore how trends influence footwear design.

The Theoretical background for this thesis comes from literature, trend forecasts, user survey, and an interview. The theoretical background deals particularly with product development, how to design a shoe and what influences the design process.

The outcome of the research work was to design a commercial footwear collection based on the information gathered. The final collection is presented as digital drawings and collection maps. The results of the study was a general understanding of the product development of footwear and the influential factors in design.
