The thesis was designed to create a guide on new employee orientation for the Lamminniemi Wellness Centre. The aim was to provide the work unit with information on self-directed work community, which can be exploited in the process of change. The topic was work-oriented, and the thesis was commissioned by the Lamminniemi Wellness Centre.

The thesis was functional. The contents of the guide were based on theory which discussed merely the self-directed work community concepts. The content of the guide was made clear and easy to read. The guide included information on the self-directed work community, the process of change, strategy management, teamwork and workplace wellbeing. In addition, the meaning of self-direction within co-operation was included and briefly discussed in the guide. Feedback of the guide was given by the CEO of Lamminniemi Wellness Centre and the guide was edited accordingly.

Different databases were used to write the thesis. In the future, a new study on how the self-directed work community practically operates through benefits and disadvantages is recommended.
