The goal of this thesis is through a systemized literature review, to determine what constitutes self-leadership and what the leader´s methods for successful self-leadership are. The research questions are: What does self-leadership mean? What types of methods help a supervisor succeed in leading themself? The information on the literature review was retrieved from five different databases: Ebsco Business Source Elite, Emerald Insight, Finna.fi, Google Scholar and Web of Science. The search words self-leadership and self-leadership development yielded a total of 1080 references. The selection of the original studies was made based on predefined admission criteria. The quality of the original material was assessed. Fifteen studies or scientific articles were selected for the final study, which were analyzed using thematic analysis. The key results of this literary review were the nature of self-leadership is process-like and holistic, and there´s an absolute requirement for knowledge of oneself. In terms of the leader´s methods for successful self-leadership not only knowing oneself, but the connection with others and the management of the workload was emphasized. Self-leadership as a process begins with the strengthening of self-knowledge, which results in the identification and awareness of development needs and the formulation and implementation of a development plan. Success is influenced by attitude, motivation and primarily, acting. Success is also reinforced by support and feedback from the organization and loved ones.
