Hoitotyön opiskelijoiden kokemuksia hoidollisesta rajoittamisesta ja MAPA-toimintatapamallista

The goal of this survey based bachelor’s thesis is to illustrate the experiences of nursing students about restrictive therapeutic interventions and MAPA-model. The thesis investigates aggression confronted by nursing students in their work. In the theoretical part of this thesis the history of physical restrictive therapeutic intervention is presented and different points of view and the legislation related to the topic are discussed. The study examines aggression and the factors that regulate it, as well as the viewpoints for the prevention of aggression. In the thesis the procedures of the restrictive therapeutic interventions are examined and their possible supportive utilization in nursing is discussed.

The empirical part of the thesis was carried out by using the nursing students in as respondents. The respondents had completed the MAPA-course in 2011 and 2012. The survey was conducted electronically as a Webropol-survey. The questionnaire consisted of four open questions and answering the questions was voluntary. Answering was performed anonymously. Qualitative approach was chosen as the research method; this enabled the use of an open questionnaire.

The answers of the survey were analysed by applying the methods of content analysis. The results of the survey reveal the verbal and physical aggression the nursing students have experienced and also the versatile utilization of the restrictive therapeutic intervention already during the practical placements or in the working life during studies. Attending the MAPA-model course during studies is, according to the results, extremely helpful for the transition from school to work. The questionnaire was sent to 24 nursing students and 13 replies were received; thus the results cannot be generalized.
