The aim of this thesis is to utilize a front office robot in the process of setting financial targets for employees. Setting financial targets to the employees’ personal target plans is part of a process where employees are engaged through an incentive program to pursue achieving business area specific targets. This thesis was commissioned by Cargotec Oyj.

In the theoretical part of this thesis automation is observed on a general level, especially from robotic process automation perspective and the possibilities of utilizing robotic process automation in human resource management tasks is explored. The thesis also goes through the different stages of the automation process. In the practical part of the thesis, the existing process for setting financial targets for employees is changed in a way that allows utilization of a front office robot. The front office robot is taught to validate the existence and correctness of employees' financial targets as well as to highlight incomplete information or information that is relevant for the process.

As an output of the thesis a recurring and systematic data validation was made part of the financial target setting process. The front office robot validates process related relevant data efficiently and accurately, thus improving the quality of the data. A significant change in the process flow is the substantial reduction of the resources involved in the process.
