Asemapuistojen tutkiminen, dokumentointi ja kunnostuksen suunnittelu

The purpose of this thesis was to explore the old railway station park of Oitti, make maintenance guidelines to the park and develop a method to produce an inventory of railway station parks. The main idea behind of these actions was to ensure the protection of built culture environment. The employer of this thesis was Pohjoismaiden Rautatieseura, Suomen Osasto ry (a railway society of Nordic countries, Finland’s unit). There was a 150th anniversary celebration of Helsinki–Pietari -track 11.9.2020 (Nummelin, 2020). Railway station parks also had a year of celebration because they started to build parks at the same time with the buildings. Several old railway station parks are in danger of loss, because railway stations are out of use and buildings have been sold to private owners. Because buildings are owned by private owners, railway station parks are separated into several yards. The result is that the park is not maintained as a solid area. Inventory of historical parks was made in Oitti’s protected area of railway station park by using Portti puutarhaan -form. The results of the study were compared to old park designs. A caring plan to the park was made, and also a new form for producing an inventory of railway station parks. Railway station parks’ protection will be actualized by increasing knowledge and interest. By increasing the cooperation between inhabitants, the railway station parks will remain a solid and valuable culture historical entirety.
