This thesis examines how the motivation and work commitment can be enhanced by leadership. The aim of the study was to provide leaders with information on the factors that influence a person's motivation and commitment, how they can support and promote this, and the impact of motivated and committed personnel on the company's operations and results. The background of the work was the student's desire to develop oneself as a leader, and the need for the commissioner Sonova Finland Oy to develop local leadership, in order to meet the requirements of today's working life.

The theoretical basis of the thesis consisted of theories of motivation and commitment, the theories of leadership work that promotes them, and their impact on the success of the company. The empirical part was collected by means of a qualitative research method, by organizing thematic interviews for the employees of the commisioner, on the topics of the theoretical basis.

According to the theoretical basis, experiences of motivation and commitment arise from the satisfaction of fundamental psychological needs. The leader promotes this through effective communication, meaningful leadership, supporting individuality and competence, ensuring well-being at work, inspiring and leading by example. A motivated and committed staff is a necessity for the success of an organization and a requirement for it’s sustainable financial growth.

The results of the interviews supported the theoretical basis. Sonova Finland Oy's employees emphasized the importance of trust, flexibility and being heard and seen, as well as the importance of communication and a good work community. The outcome of the thesis is a development plan tailored to the commisioner, based on the research results and the theoretical basis.
