The aim of this thesis was to define and map out what employment relations specialist expertise is, and what kind of competence requirements exist for working in the job description. There was a need for a survey because the title of employment relations specialist is not defined except in job advertisements. The title of employment relations specialist is used among HR-management duties. The theoretical framework of the thesis consists of four areas, which are legislation, the role of a human resources specialist, the duties of a salary specialist, and information system competence. The study was carried out by studying diverse existing data, which was used to perceive the whole from the perspective of competence. Based on the thesis, a comprehensive understanding of the competence requirements of an employment relations specialist was formed. An employment relations specialist is one of the HR professionals, whose job description includes working at the interface between management, supervisors, and HR specialists. An employment relations specialist has in-depth knowledge of legislative matters. He or she is an expert in the tasks of the employment life cycle and masters the tasks of payroll and the interpretation of collective agreements alongside laws and regulations.
