The purpose of this thesis was to examine the possibilities of forest machinery companies to produce added value for logging and their reporting. The purpose of the thesis was to get research information on what things are important in logging. The aim to find out how value could be added in logging and this information was reported to the commissioner of the thesis, the forest machinery company John Deere Forestry Oy. The theory part of the thesis introduces the TimberManager map program and discusses in general what kind of things the program uses on logging work. In the theory part, the StanForD -2010 data transfer standard and its goals are reviewed. In the same section, the ownership and usage rights of the data produced by the forest machine are presented. The thesis was carried out using a quantitative research method. The data was collected via email survey in the last week of February in 2023. Based on the survey results, it can be stated that forest machine companies think that added value can be gained for the company through new monitoring methods, in which the forest machines produce data related to logging. Clearly, the most important things to report about forest cutting are the density of the remaining trees and the location of the amount of spruce rot and their reporting. The respondents noted that the machine manufacturers’ map programs would be used more if they could produce more added value that could be invoiced. Forest machine companies answered that they would like to have additional income for reporting the data produced by the forest machines. In summary, it can be stated that the data produced by a forest machine brings considerable added value to the forest machine companies, manufacturers of forest machines and other parties.
