This is a practice-based bachelor’s thesis that examines infertility, related examinations, and the treatments for infertility. This thesis also discusses patient guidance and the principles of a patient guide. In the practical part of the thesis, a written patient guide was created. Kanta-Häme Central Hospital’s gynecologic outpatient clinic was the commissioner of this thesis. The infertility outpatient clinic is a part of the aforementioned gynecology outpatient clinic. The aim of this thesis was to gather information related to infertility, infertility examinations, and treatments. The thesis contains also information about patient guidance and criteria for the written patient guides. The background of this thesis discusses about the definition of infertility, criteria for getting infertility examinations, and treatment options for infertility. The written patient guide has been designed as the commissioner of this thesis requested. The aim was to do a clear summary about Kanta-Häme Central Hospital's infertility outpatient clinic’s services and treatment options. The commissioner requested that the guide would inform the reader that some of the treatments are carried out in cooperation with Tampere University Hospital. The commissioner requested that the guide would be implemented in English, due to the increase of non-Finnish speaking patients at the infertility outpatient clinic. The written guide fulfills the requests of the commissioner. A good written guide is understandable, easy to read, and up to date. A written guide is a significant support for oral patient guidance. The written guide can positively affect patient satisfaction.
