This thesis was implemented in co-operation with a daycare centre in Southern Finland. The aim of this thesis was to examine the creativity of five-year-old children with the help of storycrafting and photography. The purpose was to study how the children’s creativity can be seen in storytelling and photography. The purpose was also to find out if storycrafting and photography are good methods when exploring children’s creativity.

The theoretical background deals with the creativity of children, storycrafting, empowering photography, child participation and the development of five-year-old children. With the help of these theories it was possible to create a preliminary definition for creativity. This definition was completed after the activity sessions.

The thesis was a qualitative research. The activity-based part of the thesis was carried out in summer 2014. The main sources of information were the photographs, video material and recordings from the activity sessions. Participating observation was also used as a material collection method. The information was analysed thematically in autumn 2014. The collected stories and photographs were combined into a picture-storybook. The picture-storybook was ordered for the daycare centre as a recognition of the co-operation and the parents were able to order it as well.

The outcome of the thesis was that the creativity of the children can be seen in the little moments in the everyday life. Children exhibit creative thinking especially when they use their imagination, when they express themselves and when they solve the problems that they encounter. A suggestion for further study is to examine how the parents and the staff of the daycare centre view this kind of action.
