This thesis focuses on the feasibility of a modern resource planning system for creating timetables for educational purposes. The thesis was commissioned by Kymenlaakso University of Applied Sciences.

The aim of this thesis was to define and introduce a resource planning system TimeEdit as a part of KyUAS’s software architecture. Another aim was to re-vise the annual process of lecture timetabling by reducing the number of pro-grams used and securing the data transfer between the programs. KyUAS being the first Finnish speaking customer to use TimeEdit and also needing an inter-face between TimeEdit and teaching planning system SoleOps placed the supplier and project group in front of considerable challenges.

The content is based on literature and electronic sources covering the theory of integration of an information system as well as the entire project. It also includes basic factors of successful project management. Literature on these subjects was vast and diverse, no difficulties were faced acquiring material.

The method used to evaluate the results of the project was realistic evaluation. The conclusion of the project was successful and plenty of information and experience in developing the timetabling process was gained. This project met the objectives set and user groups involved all agreed the entirety was successful.
